Why Wood?
Hard woods (especially maple, cherry, and walnut) are known for their superior anti-microbial properties, preventing the growth of E. coli, salmonella, and other harmful bacteria. The naturally occurring antimicrobial properties found in wood trap and eliminate bacteria rather than harboring them. This makes wood an obvious choice for cutting board use. Wooden cutting boards are also more gentle on knife blades (compared to plastic or glass boards), self-healing to minimize deep scratches, and are more durable, often lasting for decades with proper maintenance. It’s also a renewable resource, making it a responsible choice. Wood offers trusted durability and a unique aesthetic. Our handcrafted boards ensure a sustainable choice, enhancing your kitchen while providing a warm, rustic charm that manufactured options simply can't match.

There are three styles of boards that can be made.

-
Face grain: The most common type of cutting board, these are crafted by gluing the wide edge (face) of wood planks together. They are generally more affordable and offer a stunning, artistic display of wood grain, making them ideal for serving or lighter cutting tasks. While they are beautiful, they can show knife marks more quickly than end-grain boards. Routine oiling will yield the best results.
-
Edge grain: These boards are crafted by gluing the narrow sides of the planks together. A perfect blend of strength and value, these are durable and knife-friendly. They are more resistant to warping and less susceptible to stains than face-grain boards, and they require the least maintenance.
-
End grain: Crafted by gluing the ends of the planks (think-- the tree rings) together. These boards are made for everyday and heavy use. They're easier on the knife's edge, helping to keep your knives sharper longer. The porous aspect self-heals cut marks, making it more hygienic, stronger and the most durable. The crafting process is more labor intensive. The premium price reflects detailed craftsmanship. Expect to oil these boards monthly due to their porous nature, but these can last decades when cared for properly.
